Faith guides every aspect of Miguel Arruda’s life, making him a natural fit as the new Principal of St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School.

Miguel ArrudaArruda began his career in education with Lakeland Catholic School Division. During his five years teaching at the middle school in Bonnyville, AB, Arruda taught Religion, Social Studies, outdoor classes, and Physical Education. He later accepted a position as vice principal—and later principal—with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District.

A graduate of Memorial University in Newfoundland, Arruda holds a Bachelor of Arts in Historical Studies and Religious Studies. He also earned a Master of Education in Administration and Policy from Xavier University.

While grateful for the experience his most recent role in Newfoundland provided, Arruda is eager to return to Catholic education.

“I am very excited to be returning to the Catholic education system and to have the opportunity to support students in their academic, physical, and spiritual growth—as well as to serve the staff, parents, and the entire St. Michael’s community,” he said.

An avid outdoorsman who enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, fishing, and playing sports, Arruda is also looking forward to the natural beauty and recreational opportunities British Columbia has to offer.

He is known for planting strong roots in the communities he calls home, volunteering with the ski patrol and coaching basketball.

“Miguel brings instructional leadership, dedication, and a deep passion for Catholic education. His commitment to nurturing students in both faith and learning will be a true asset to our community. We look forward to his leadership as we continue to grow a strong, faith-centered environment at St. Michael’s,” said Superintendent Pamela Guilbault.

Arruda will begin his new role as Principal on August 1, 2025.
