West Kelowna, BC – Athol Murray College of Notre Dame is excited to announce their partnership with Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School in West Kelowna, BC bringing the Notre Dame Hounds hockey legacy to the OLOL Hockey Academy.
Founded in 1994, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School is home to over 130 students from Kindergarten through Grade 8. This year marks the introduction of Grade 8, and there are still a few spaces available, though they are limited.
Our Lady of Lourdes offers strong academic programming with demonstrated results in literacy. Their dedicated teachers embrace the motto of "Learning with Family, Friendship, and Faith" while encouraging students to think critically and creatively. Our Lady of Lourdes is a small school where every child is known, supported, and will be inspired to reach his or her full potential.
Our Lady of Lourdes is pleased to expand the student programming with the introduction of this year's hockey program in partnership with Notre Dame. Offering a strong on ice and off ice curriculum that includes insights from some of the NHL's greatest coaches and Notre Dame Alumni, the program also offers a comprehensive in-classroom leadership program that is tailored to elementary school age students. The program is co-ed offering learning and growth opportunities for both boys and girls. This program will allow students to learn about the importance of character, community and faith. “Notre Dame is very excited about our new partnership with Our Lady of Lourdes,” said Notre Dame President Charlie Skipper. “Together we are building on our shared commitment to Catholic education with its emphasis on the whole child and growing intellectually, spiritually, and athletically. Hockey, as Notre Dame has long demonstrated, is a wonderful sport through which invaluable life skills are learned and not applied just to the ends of winning games but to the more important end of becoming a person of character, faith, and service.”
“Our Lady of Lourdes is excited to bring this prestigious hockey academy to our students, combining Notre Dame’s tradition of excellence with OLOL’s strong faith and academic foundation. Here, students will live by the motto ‘Pray Hard, Play Hard,’ growing in faith, developing their gifts, and celebrating the talents God has blessed them with, both on and off the ice,” said Chad Sheehan, Acting Principal at OLOL.
On-ice training will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:15–2:15 p.m. In addition, students will take part in weekly off-ice leadership development sessions.
